Spring Sunshine

Youth Led Neurodiversity Advocacy group

What we do

1. Neurodiversity Celebration Week in Korea

pg1

Spring Sunshine annually hosts Neurodiversity Celebration Week in Korea, a worldwide campaign that seeks to raise awareness of and support the neurodiversity cause.

In 2024, Spring Sunshine co-hosted the inaugural Neurodiversity Celebration Week in Korea. We’ve held events at school (2024, 2025, planned 2026) as well as Banpo Community Center (2024) and Understand Avenue, Seongsu (2025).

At school, we display informational posters of famous neurodivergent figures, distribute educational quizzes to introduce the concept of neurodiversity in a friendly way, and deliver annual school-wide presentations on neurodiversity.

Outside of school, we connect with and introduce neurodiversity to a Korean audience. In 2025, we raised more than $1.4K by selling merchandise promoting neurodiversity-friendly messages. We donated this to the 2026 Autism Expo, the first and largest event in Korea where people share information on and learn about autism and developmental disabilities.

2. Translation for Smile Together Foundation

pg2

In order to raise awareness of neurodiversity in Korea, where the concept is either not well-known or received with hostility, Spring Sunshine translates foreign articles on neurodiversity from English to Korea. These articles are published by Smile Together Foundation, a Korean foundation dedicated to supporting individuals with autism and developmental disabilities. Spring Sunshine aims to provide a wider range of resources for Koreans who wish to learn more about neurodiversity and advocacy.

3. "Neurodiversity Advocates in South Korea" Article Series for Stanford Neurodiversity Project's NNEA

pg3

Spring Sunshine also aims to connect Korean neurodiversity advocates with those abroad through the “Neurodiversity Advocates in South Korea” article series, which is published by The Network for K-12 Neurodiversity Education and Advocacy (NNEA).

We have interviewed South Korean neurodiversity advocates such as Ms Myeonghyi Kim (expert and author of multiple books advocating for inclusive classrooms in Korea), CEO Jaepil Ko (founder and CEO of Peeling Media, a company dedicated to delivering true, genuine stories of artists with developmental disabilities), and CEO Yejin Cha (founder and CEO of Colorful Brain Friends, a brand that aims to raise awareness of neurodiversity through its original characters and storytelling).

4. Project Leader Opportunities

pg4

Through the Project Leader opportunity, Spring Sunshine members combine their unique academic interest with neurodiversity to design, conduct, and lead neurodiversity advocacy projects of their choice. By leading their projects themselves, Spring Sunshine members can learn more deeply about neurodiversity themselves as well as educate their community about its value.
